"You Got To Know When To Fold 'em"
No, it wasn’t the “Big Card Game” in Bonaparte this last weekend; instead it was Debra Herrick’s class on making greeting cards and a stationary folder. The Beginning Card Making class was held at the Opera House on Saturday. I arrived to find all of the students intently cutting, pasting and folding to create their projects. This class would provide each of them with the knowledge to make their own specialized cards. They would each complete five multi-purpose cards and learn how to make a stationary folder using decorative papers. Debra was busy going from student to student assisting each of them in the process of making their card. I spent some time watching as they each worked through all of the needed steps to complete their cards. Of course I couldn’t let the moment pass without taking some pictures. Going to our Blog will give you a closer look at the classes by clicking on the slideshow. You will find the Blog by going to www.villagesfolkschool.com and clicking on the link. By keeping our class sizes small, we can assure each student will receive adequate one on one time with the instructor. This quality time allows you to complete your project while at the same time develop the proper skill sets needed to continue your newfound craft with proficiency.
Every class is unique in its own way as our artist instructors share their individual talents and passions with their students. I think that is what I enjoy the most; seeing those gifts shared, watching each student grasp it in a different way and then push the boundaries with their individual talents to achieve their own artistic results. The Villages Folk School is all about sharing the folk and traditional arts and allowing others to experience the creative arts. This opportunity is not one you can take lightly. Come enjoy a day, or a weekend with one of our artists and begin to understand what we mean when we say, “Living the Arts in Van Buren County, Iowa”. Just give yourself a week-end to get away and you will experience what could be one of the best times of your life!
